Yasmeen “Yaz” is a counseling intern in the final year of her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Counseling and Applied Psychological Sciences from Arizona State University and a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Northern Arizona University.
Yaz is passionate about providing accessible, high-quality counseling for individuals, couples, and families navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship concerns, life transitions, and other personal challenges. As a United States Army combat medic veteran and the partner of a United States Air Force pilot, she has a unique appreciation for the resilience, adaptability, and strength required of military families, first responders, healthcare professionals, and others serving in high-demand roles.
Her counseling approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and informed by humanistic values, attachment theory, existential perspectives, and principles of interpersonal neurobiology. Yaz views therapy as a collaborative process where clients can safely explore how their thoughts, emotions, relationships, and past experiences influence present-day patterns and overall well-being. She believes meaningful change begins within a safe, trusting therapeutic relationship where clients feel seen, supported, and empowered to grow.
Yaz works alongside clients to identify and challenge unhelpful beliefs and behaviors, strengthen emotional regulation, improve relationships, build resilience, and develop practical coping strategies that support lasting growth beyond the therapy room. She approaches each client with authenticity, curiosity, and respect, recognizing that every person’s experiences, values, and relationships shape their unique journey.
Committed to whole-person care, Yaz strives to create a supportive environment where clients feel understood, challenged, and empowered as they move from hopelessness to healing and toward a more meaningful, fulfilling life.
